A father films his daughter every year on her birthday, asking the same questions. In a mere 29 minutes we see a girl go from a toddler to a young woman with all the beautiful and awkward stages in between while the father/daughter relationship evolves in all its complexities.

RECENT AWARDS AND SCREENINGS

How Do You Measure a Year? was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Documentary.

When We Were Bullies was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Documentary.

Eight films acquired by MoMA for their permanent collection: The Smell of Burning Ants, Human Remains, King of the Jews, Phantom Limb, Afraid So, I Just Wanted To Be Somebody, The Darkness of Day and Beginning Filmmaking.

Inquire Within had its World Premiere at the 2012 Rotterdam Film Festival and US Premiere at SXSW. Screenings include Tribeca, SF International, EMAF (European Media Arts Festival) and Vila do Conde Shorts Film Festival, Portugal. Winner of Best Experimental Film, Marin County Fair. It screened in competition at the Tampere Short Film Festival in Finland, International Short Film Festival Winterhur, Switzerland and Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, Czech Republic.

The D Train was awarded Best Short Documentary at Play Doc in Spain and a Jury Diploma at Message to Man International Film Festival in Russia.

MoMA presents The Darkness of Day: Recent Films by Jay Rosenblatt

The Darkness of Day was awarded Best Short Film in the International Official Competition of the Cali International Film Festival in Colombia and Best Documentary at the Tampere Film Festival in Finland.  It has also won Best Short Documentary at Krakow Film Festival in Poland, It's All True in Brazil and Play Doc in Spain as well as Special Mentions at Punto De Vista Film Festival in Spain, Dokufest in Kosova and DOXA, Vancouver. 

Beginning Filmmaking is part of the American Documentary Showcase, a curated program of contemporary documentaries that is offered to US Embassies around the world.
